Time for a Name Change!

Have you ever in a moment thought to yourself...

"Why me, why is this my name?"

I have and I'm not alone! In fact the company I keep might surprise those who wouldn't dream of changing such a thing as their name.

Like many there was a time I went by Jim instead of James as I do today. In fact hearing Jim today sounds much like finger nails being pulled across a chalk board.

A sound I could easily go a lifetime without ever experiencing and still be happy!

There is one thing I can say about my name, I've always loved my middle name Burton!

When it clicks, it works!

Now, if you're someone who doesn't think twice about your name then congratulations to you! Just know that this isn't about you, it's about me and those who simply don't have any real affinity for their birth name.

I'm not alone there are many who have become famous, even a house hold name and all while using a name that was different from their given name.

Who is Leslie Lynch King, Jr.?

If you're not a trivia savant or a history buff then you might not have a clue as to who Leslie Lynch King, Jr. Despite him holding one of the most influential positions in the world, his popular name was not anything close to his birth name.

Before I tell you who he is take a look at this list of birth names and see if you recognize any of them...

  • Joyce Diane Bauer
  • Virginia Patterson Hensley
  • Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.
  • Frederick Austerlitz
  • Caryn Johnson
  • Charles Hardin Holley
  • Roy Scherer Jr.
  • Reginald Dwight
  • Larry Zeigler
  • Krishna Banji
  • Joseph Levitch
  • Carlos Ray
  • Joan Sandra Molinsky
  • Steveland Morris Hardaway
  • Marion Michael Morrison

How many of those names would you even think twice about if you heard them?

Just notice and keep reading...

You name it...from typo's, to a favorite personality, to a favorite book or even to those who anxiously want to distance themselves from someone or something the reasons for changing one's name are many.

Yes, I have up until the past few months gone by James B Smith even though I cringe at the sound of it!

Why did it take so long?

Finally, as I worked on some writing the idea of a "pen name" struck me as being just the thing. After some time and inspiration it hit me...

James Possible!

...like someone saying "WOW! I could have had a V8!, James Possible ran through my veins like greased lightening.

I just made sense!

I have had someone I work closely with refer to me as James "Possible" Smith. Which works and still it's not really what I am after. Even though I understand it...wink!

Today you might know Leslie Lynch King, Jr. as...drum roll please...

Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr.

...yes, I do mean President Ford!

Although my reasons are much different than his, I can say this...

I love being James Possible!

...possibility is built into my DNA!

Those who take any time to know me know that this is absolutely true!

Ok, here are the popular names of the names I shared earlier...

  • Dr. Joyce Brothers - Joyce Diane Bauer
  • Patsy Cline - Virginia Patterson Hensley
  • John Denver - Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.
  • Fred Astaire - Frederick Austerlitz
  • Gerald R. Ford - Leslie Lynch King, Jr.
  • Whoopie Goldberg - Caryn Johnson
  • Buddy Holly - Charles Hardin Holley
  • Rock Hudson - Roy Scherer Jr.
  • Elton John - Reginald Dwight
  • Larry King - Larry Zeigler
  • Ben Kingsley - Krishna Banji
  • Jerry Lewis - Joseph Levitch
  • Chuck Norris - Carlos Ray
  • Joan Rivers - Joan Sandra Molinsky
  • Stevie Wonder - Steveland Morris Hardaway
  • John Wayne - Marion Michael Morrison

Does a name really matter? ABSOLUTELY!

Yet, for you it may not make a bit of difference which is fine for you. Just know that there are many who don't feel the same way.

Life is about choice and no matter what happens you will always have a choice. Even when the choice is not obvious it is there!

Today I'm sharing with you a choice I have made. I will go by James Possible moving forward.

Why? Because it fits me from the inside out!

Well, the mystery is over for those who wondered and didn't ask...now you know...wink!

To your success,

James Possible

PS: By the way...next time, just ask...wink!
